Die Person die immer nein sagt

Während eines Spaziergangs gestern hörte ich seit langer Zeit mal wieder keine Musik, sondern einen Podcast, der sich an den Personalveränderungen bei Xbox abarbeitete. Fand ich sehr unterhaltsam und spannend, auch weil Jeff Gerstmann ein Veteran des Mediums ist. Der folgende Abschnitt ließ mich kurz innehalten und führte zu absurden Erinnerungen an einige Situationen in meiner Vergangenheit.

And you’re having to answer a lot of the same questions over and over again because it’s a lot of people who come in and think that their ideas are completely fresh and never been come up with before. And you have to be the person to say like, no, dude, we did this in 98 and here’s why that didn’t work then. And I don’t think that things have changed enough to work now.

And so it puts you in this position as someone who’s been in this position a couple of times. Where you are suddenly the person who just says no all the time. Because all the fucking ideas are terrible.

And you could just sit there and go like, it’s your business. I don’t know, man, set it on fire. Or you could care about it and be like, actually, here’s why you don’t want to do this.

Wer immer mal in solch einer Situation gewesen ist, weiß genau, was er damit meint. Ich selbst war auch mehrfach an solchen Punkten, beruflich und privat, und letzteres ist noch brutaler. Als ich das hörte, musste ich kurz innehalten und reflektieren: „Stimmt.“ Egal welcher Kontext, egal welche Zeit: Niemand mag weder immer Nein sagen müssen noch immer Nein hören wollen. Eine klassische Situation von unvermeidbarer Reibung.1 Intern oder extern. Beides mies. Wenn ich mich zurück erinnere, war sowas immer der Anfang vom Ende.
